Need your input
I have an etsy shop where I sell paper supplies. I was going to open a shop for my folk art but I hear so much about Etsy, what is your opinion. I have frequent sales on Etsy, but I know some people are struggling. I would love to hear from people who have Etsy, Zibbet and Art Fire shops. Are you getting a lot of traffic? Do you have good sales? Do you have a free account or upgraded to a premium or pro shop? Would love to know what you gals are doing. Thanks for you input!

Re: Need your input
Here is my take on Etsy.
I love it. Sure there is a few bad apples in the bunch. But there always is where ever you go. (seeing how they let made in china sneak in) I just keep on hand making my goodies and keep listing them there. My blog and having interaction with my customers and customers to be on my blog gets people to notice me. Some people have no clue about ANY ONLINE SHOPPING STORE. You have to direct them there. I sell a variety of crafts in my shop. I dont limit my store to just selling ONE theme. I make oodles of stuff. You can have sections in your shop to separate them if you like. I talk about EVERYTHING on my blog before I list it in my shop. You never know who is googling what and if they googling what I have they are bound to see it if they keep looking. Remember also the times. The good ole day of sales all the time is not gonna happen for a bit. Most people are out of a job these days. try to find affordable hand mades to offer if your stuff is costly to make. Offer a variety of things and prices. Not everyone is shopping or looking for what you made so give it some time. Some people are on vacation/getting ready for school and has no online time. Maybe that person will do a google search 20 days after you listed something. ANd boom they find you and LOOK its available to buy. Share photos of your creations in places like flickr and photo buckets or what ever popular online photo site you like. That too gets you noticed. Just keep making goodies and make more than just ONE theme or item or whatever it is you offer. More goodies attracts more people. Different tastes attract different people and those people give you sales. I love Etsy. i have no problem selling there. As long as I have someone who is interested what I offer. Some times I will just never sell that one doll. EVER it will just sit there all waiting and never find a home. It happens. I will just move on and make another doll and another and another. I personally dont care to get started in another ONLINE selling site. I am sticking to Etsy and staying there. I have been there for over 3 years now and people know where to find me. I say once you find something your comfy with stay there and list EVERYTHING you make and keep making.

Re: Need your input
Sherry gave you good advice. I've been on etsy 2 years and plan on staying. It has it's share of problems, but the traffic is there. I also have a shop on artfire, it is a pro account. I LOVE artfire but the traffic is no where as good as etsy and sales are low. I was on zibbet and think it is a great site but is so tiny I didn't feel it was worth the time right now. Maybe in the future.
As far as etsy is concerned, you can't just list your items and let them sit. You have to list frequently, relist frequently. I also blog, tweet and use flickr. You have to generate your own traffic by cross promoting. I'm on an etsy team and do team promos to bring traffic. I spend several hours a day working on etsy. Sales are not as good as they were, but still coming in. I still have my websites with mini etsy links back to my shop. |

Re: Need your input
Thanks girls for all the input. I still like etsy and will open a shop there but wondered if it was worth all the time to open one on artfire too? A lot of my stuff is one of a kind so maybe just sticking with one is the best way to go. Thanks again for all the help.

Re: Need your input
I do love Etsy, I get most of my sales from my website but Etsy is a close second and Ebay , third. I haven't really marketed the other shops yet as I have the basic accounts and can list a limited amount.

Re: Need your input
I have always sold my folk art at local craft shows and occationally local shops. I have a website that I keep up for customers to see my things and keep up with my show schedule. I would like to try to sell a few pieces on etsy, so I guess it is time to jump in! thanks for the input. Love your dolls!
